Ophelia

Ophelia grew up in Carroll Valley, Pennsylvania with her mom, step-father, and three siblings (Marcus, Katie, and Jared). Ophelia was the oldest child, so many of the duties for caring for her younger siblings fell to her as both her mother and father worked long hours. She was a star student, but was not able to take part in any after-school activities.

One day she came home early and saw a strange man talking to her mother (who should have been at work). Neither of them saw her and she was afraid to say anything in case her mother was cheating on her step-father. A few weeks later while she was watching the kids the man came to the house. She remembers answering the door and little more. She watched helpless as the man led her and her siblings into some nearby woods. When he opened the door on a abandoned cabin she saw a different world. Into that world went her siblings, but she was able to break free and run away.

When she finally got home her step-father was confused as he was told the kids were spending the night with the neighbors - but her mom was terrified. She ran around shouting to the ceiling like a madwoman and eventually outside. She and her father watched in horror as hundreds of wasps descended on her and stung her to death. They would have gotten Ophelia as well, but her step-father grabbed her along with a bag from the closet and reached the car before the wasps could get them. As she drove away she saw millions of wasps covering her house.

For the next 10 years her step-father told her things - things that seemed too unusual to believe, but she had no choice as wasps dogged their steps. The day of her step-father's death, Randall Palmer arrived in time to save Ophelia from the same fate. He brought her to the club and in time she read through every book they had on the shelf.

She learned a great deal and in time convinced Randall that they could not just sit back and passively move things as if it was a great game. He relented and allowed her to build a small volunteer group within the club to drive back the darker elements of the world.
